Nintendo is serious about killing Pokemon X and Y leaks

Glad Nintendo are doing their best to keep leaks to a minimum. I want to play this game just like the first – not knowing anything about it!

Nintendo seems to be taking a page out of Rockstar’s playbook when it comes to squashing Pokemon X and Y leaks.

Instagram user, kosthedin, got his hands on a copy of Pokemon X and Y early and has been posting images and videos of the game on his Instagram account for the last few days. According to Kotaku Australia, Nintendo actually flew out a representative to the local game store that sold him the copy of the game.

“Nintendo flew a representative out this afternoon and went to the local game shop where I picked up X. The Nintendo rep had said heads were rolling at Nintendo because of the leaks. I gave up my copy of the game to try and help keep the local game shop out of trouble and to keep my friend from losing his job.”

Pokemon X and Y – New Pokemon Revealed: Fossil Evolutions + New Gameplay

2 brand new Pokemon have been revealed for the current 6th generation line-up. Both Pokemon are the 1st stage evolutions of the previously announced fossil Pokemon Amaura and Tyrunt.

First up is Aurorus which evolves from the basic Pokemon Amaura. It’s said to be able to expel air from its lungs at a freezing temperature of -240 degrees Fahrenheit . It has the ability Refrigerate, and is 2.7 m tall and weighs 225.0 kg.
There’s also the addition of a new Ice Type move known as Freeze Dry. Ice moves are not very effective against Water-types but Freeze-Dry is super effective against Water types, so this might see a mix up of type effective moves. Perhaps some moves will have specific types they are effective against now. The move can also leave a target frozen.

Second up is the Tyrannosaurus-based Pokemon Tyrantrum who evolves from Tyrunt.

Other information presented also indicates that Pokemon will also gain EXP at the end of a battle even when the opposing Pokemon is caught in a PokeBall. There will apparently be no new Pokemon introduced in gen 6 that can mega evolve, and Pokecenters will now also include areas for the player to change their outfit.

A video has also been released for the Japanese 3DS eShop showcasing over 3 minutes of new footage for the games. The trailer shows new areas of the Kalos region and further footage of character customisation.

Pokemon Mega Evolutions Leaked? Plus Pokemon: Genesect and the Legend Awakened and New X and Y Anime

Leaked earlier (initially from 2Chan) and pictured above is what is rumoured to be the complete list of Mega Evolutions for the previous generations of Pokemon. The image shows what is meant to be a full list of mega evolutions, along with the Pokemon X and Y logo at the top. This list, if correct, indicates that all the previous starter pokemon from generations 1-5 will be receiving mega evolutions along with many other pokemon from gens 1 to 5. This list looks extremely interesting and looks to have some pretty powerful additions such as Dragonite, Aggron, Salamence and Metagross.

In other news the newest Pokemon movie, Genesect and the Legend Awakened will be airing around a week after the release of Pokemon X and Y on the 19th October in America and the UK. The movie will air on CITV in the UK and on Cartoon Network in the US. Following after the airing of the movie will be two preview episodes of the new X and Y season of the Pokemon anime.

Blurb for the Movie:

“When big trouble threatens the big city, it’s up to Ash, Pikachu, and their friends to stop it!

A vast Pokémon habitat amid the hustle and bustle of the big city seems like the perfect new home for a group of five Genesect. The arrival of these Mythical Pokémon quickly becomes a problem, though: their nest threatens the city’s power supply, and they keep attacking anyone who approaches it. On top of that, they’ve attracted the attention of the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, who sympathizes with them because its own origins also involve human tampering. The group’s leader, known as Red Genesect, doesn’t trust Mewtwo, and their confrontation quickly rages out of control! Can Ash and friends stop these two powerful Pokémon before they destroy the city?”

In addition to the new season of the Pokemon anime is what appears to be a new Pokemon special under the name of Pokemon: The Origin. Not much at current is known about the special other than that it appears to cover the original Red and Green games, following the main protagonist along his journey. Pokemon: The Origin will air shortly after the release of Pokemon X and Y in Japan – and it has not currently been announced when or if the special will air elsewhere.

Most Expensive Pokémon Card Ever – $100,000

I think this is the most expensive Pokémon card I’ve ever set my eyes upon. Right now it’s set at the incredibly cheap buy it now price of $100,000 on Ebay – it’s safe to say I don’t have money to even think about putting an offer in on this piece of Pokémon Trading Card history. The last copy of this ‘Illustrator’ card to go on sale is meant to have sold for upwards of $20,000, and that was an ungraded copy. Which means its condition wasn’t graded. This card however, has a PSA grade of 9 which pretty much means its almost perfect condition and could go for some very serious money. It’s almost ridiculous how much money could be made on this card – considering that it pretty much is a picture printed on card. Don’t get me wrong, I understand how rare this card is, it was limited to a strict run of only 5, but 100k is a serious amount of money to pay for anything. I used to collect Pokémon cards pretty seriously when I was younger, and have thousands of thousands of them, with quite a few complete sets and rare cards. I don’t think I ever spent more than about £20 on a card though, and that seemed like a lot to me. I really enjoyed collecting and trading the cards, and sometimes its fun to look up what the rarest cards are going for at the moment. I think this one takes the cherry though.

The card was awarded to those who had a winning entry in the Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest that was held in 1997. As the name might suggest, this was a competition held in conjunction with CoroCoro Magazine in Japan where fans could submit their illustrations of a requested Pokémon. As I said there are only 5 of these cards that were ever released and there’s a further mint copy held by the Official Pokémon TCG Blog. Meaning a total of only 6 copies of the card exist, now that’s pretty rare.

The text of the card reads:

We certify that your illustration is an excellent entry in
the Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest.
Therefore, we state that you are an Officially
Authorized Pokémon Card Illustrator and admire your skill.

Meaning the card has no official function in the Trading Card Game. Not that you would use it even if it had!

Having collected Pokémon cards for quite some time, it’s really interesting to find that there are some cards which can achieve or warrant a price tag of $100,000. Currently the card has over 57,000 views, which is one of the mos viewed items I think I’ve ever seen on Ebay, and it still has over 11 days left. After having almost 200 offers on the card it’ll be interesting to see what it finally goes for  – if it does

Nintendo Pokémon Direct – The Afterthoughts

The newest Pokémon themed Nintendo Direct landed just over 2 hours ago and did not disappoint at all. It was brimming with new content and information that sparked excitement in even the most casual of fans.

The video opens with an unfamiliar face, no Satoru Iwata greeting us with his gleeful grin, but instead the video is hosted by Tsunekaz Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company and producer of Pokémon. Quickly though he is joined by Iwata and special guest Junichi Masuda, one of the founding members of Game Freak – the main company responsible for the Pokémon games.

The video begins with ‘Pokémon Triforce’ holding a retrospective talk about the previous entries in the Pokémon series. They revel over the original Game Boy and packaging for the first games, Red and Green. They discuss the different ways in which players could connect to one another for trading and battling. From the link cable, to the wireless adapters, to the wireless online capabilities of the DS. This leads to the first reveal: Pokémon Bank.

Pokémon Bank:
Pokémon bank is an online service that serves as an expansion to the number of boxes available on the in-game PC. This service allows for up to 3000 Pokémon to be stored online and withdrawn at any time.  Additionally, a further application will be available under the name Poké Transporter. Poké Transporter will be available to allow the player to transfer their old Pokémon from Black/White and Black 2/White 2 into the Pokémon bank and then further transport them on to the new Pokémon X and Y games.
A small caveat is added at the end by Iwata though; because the service requires constant maintenance it will be a paid-for service and annual fee (which has yet to be revealed), but the scope of lifetime for the service is meant to extend for years to come./

Kanto Starters:
It’s revealed during the Direct that you receive one of the three Kanto starters from the original Pokémon games as a gift from Professor Sycamore in addition to the new starter you receive from one of your friends. Then some massive news hits.

Kanto Starter Mega Evolutions:

Yeah you read that right. For a long time fan this was absolutely amazing news. The original three Kanto starters, Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur are all going to have 4th stage mega evolutions. This is what I meant in my previous post about old Pokémon getting a new lease of life, it’s superb.
It’s also revealed that mega evolution requires an item called the Mega Ring. Mega evolution occurs when the ring the trainer wears and the Mega Stone the Pokémon holds connect with each other – this requires a strong connection between Pokémon and trainer in order to occur. Finally it’s stated that there are many more Pokémon that will have mega evolutions.

“As a player, I’ve been with Pokémon for a long time, and I feel like Mega Evolutions are an expression of everything in the past.” – Tsunekaz Ishihara

The final piece of news that the video relays is the release of 2 new special Pokémon themed blue and red 3DS XLs, which will be released on the 27th of Sepetember in Europe and America.
